Eileen Donan Castle
Eilean Donan Castle has starred in movies and is a popular stop on the way to the Isle of Skye. The first castle was built here in the 13th Century and was partially destroyed in a Jacobite uprising in 1719. Eilean Donan lay in ruins for nearly 200 years. Then Lt. Col. John MacRae-Gilstrap bought the island in 1911 and restored the castle to its former glory, reopening it in 1932.

Locks on the Caledonian Canal, a site we visited on the way to the Isle of Skye. The Caledonian Canal is 62 miles in length. It goes from Inverness to Corpach near Fort William. It was completed in 1822 and was considered a significant engineering feat. It is still used today, mostly by smaller pleasure craft.
