Kilkenny is a medieval town built along the River Nore, with beautiful cathedrals and lively pubs. cupiers. The town has deep religious roots and many well-preserved churches and monasteries, including imposing St. Canice’s Cathedral.

Kilkenny Castle rises above the River Nore. Built for the William Marshal, 4th Earl of Pembroke (1146-1219) during the first decade of the 13th Century, it has undergone many alterations and had many additions – leaving it a hodgepodge of architectural styles. The Butler family, who lived in it for almost 600 years, presented it to the people of Ireland in 1967 for a token payment of £50.
