A view from one of Solvang’s many wineries.A Santa Barbara artist created this installation after the devastation of the 2017 fires and mudslides. Residents left letters that both expressed grief and appreciation for those who had helped fight the fires and the community to recover. These were read once a week in the months after the fires. The oversized mailbox was recently relocated to Carpinteria, and the artist hopes to bring it to other communities suffering disasters.The view from the porch of the Rusack Wine-Tasting Room.We took a trip to nearby Solvang and enjoyed a bicyle tour of sites from the movie, “Sideways.”The Spot is an iconic hamburger joint in Carpinteria that always has a line. This photo was taken before it opened for the day.Wineries with any connection to the movie, “Sideways,” are marking that connection. This was one of the wineries where the two main characters tasted wine in a montage of wine tastings in the movie.
